Why we pray: Incienso de Adoración

Incienso de Adoración is YWAM Granada's call to worship and prayer for the city, to start a prayer movement in Granada. What it means and how to join.

Why we pray: Incienso de Adoración

May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.

Psalm 141:2

In the temple in Jerusalem, incense burned on the golden altar every morning and every evening. Its smoke rose before God continually. The psalmist saw his own prayer in it, and in the book of Revelation the prayers of God's people are held before the throne in golden bowls full of incense.

That is the picture behind Incienso de Adoración, incense of worship: prayer and worship rising from Granada to God, not once, but again and again, until it becomes the rhythm of a city.

Prayer comes first

In YWAM we believe that everything we do starts with God. Before we go to the plazas, before a school begins, before we sit down with a Muslim friend, we pray. We ask God what is on His heart and we listen.

Granada has known centuries of conflict between faiths. We believe the most powerful thing we can do for this city is to bless it before God: its families, its students, its churches, its leaders and our Muslim neighbours.

A movement, not a meeting

Our hope is bigger than a prayer meeting at our base. We want to see a prayer movement in Granada, carried by churches across the city, that goes on long after any of us has left. Incienso de Adoración is our first step: regular times of worship and intercession that anyone can join.
